  9. Germans used the tower as a lookout during World War II and the attackers did not attack the tower and cathedral as it was very beautiful just like ponte vecchio in Florence.

That is all the facts I know. Now lets move on to history.

In the early days Pisa was a popular resting place for people coming from Europe going to Jerusalem. The military fleet was also the most successful. In 1174, engineer Bonnano laid a marble foundation large enough to park about 16 Ferrari 328s in. But because there was a lot of water underground the foundation only was kept 10 feet in the ground. The tower was finally completed in 1372 almost 200 years after it began and it is still leaning. The Tower of Pisa is the churches bell tower and that is why it is named Bell tower of Pisa. The real identity of the person who built the leaning tower is still a mystery. Over the next 750 years or more , it became clear the tower was not only learning,  it was actually falling at a rate of a few millimeters per year.
